The role
Reporting to the Technical Lead, you’ll be working in a small, fast-paced team. Day-to-day, you will:
Analyse existing testing processes and identify where automation delivers the highest value.
Build automated test suites for critical user journeys using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar.
Create robust, maintainable scripts the team can continue using after your contract finishes.
Design regression packs that are repeatable, readable, and scalable.
Challenge unclear requirements and actively improve acceptance criteria.
Help us move from reactive manual testing to proactive, automated quality.
Support manual testing where it adds value, especially for edge cases or exploratory testing.
Your success in this role is measured not by the volume of tests written, but by: ‘Can the team continue delivering quality confidently after you leave?’
What we’re looking for
Designing and implementing automated tests using a modern automation framework.
Understanding test architecture, selectors, mocks, stubs, fixtures, and assertions.
Understanding of relational databases.
Testing APIs, UIs, and complex user flows for safety critical aspects of RCHQ.
Turning vague requirements into clear test scenarios.
Documenting your work in a way others can maintain.
Building testing processes that scale beyond your contract period.
Have a strong understanding of OOP and are comfortable writing quality code.
Preferred, not essential
AzureDevOps, Figma, Python, Typescript, Git, MariaDB.
Experience of Playwright
Experience of Appian test tools (e.g. Cucumber, Fitnesse)
About you
You take a disciplined, analytical approach to testing, with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and repeatability.
You understand the real-world impact of failure on vulnerable people and treat testing as a critical safeguard.
You take ownership, communicate clearly, challenge ambiguity, and design robust tests that prevent issues from recurring.
You value automation for the speed, safety, and scalability it provides, applying sound judgement to protect both Clients and Carers.
